On the animals' terms
In Knuthenborg, things operate on the animals' terms, so if the donkeys choose to stand in the middle of the road, then the rest of us must wait – just like in nature. Therefore, you might experience seeing fewer or more of the animal species you dream of encountering. The animals set the pace here. For example, tigers are naturally solitary creatures that do not live in packs. That's why our tigers are always seen only one or two together, as they would live in the wild.
You can experience animals from many different continents, but what they all have in common is that they are here for a reason and that they are well-cared for. This means that the animals are primarily trained to ensure their health, and we work towards having as many of our animals as possible adapt to our climate – or become accustomed to it.
We have a vision for the future where we want to make a difference for the animals that need a new home due to changes in legislation or conflicts in the world. Our hope is that these animals can help to create a focus for understanding their wild counterparts, and what we can do together to preserve them in nature.
We have animals in the following four categories;
- Animals bred for reintroduction
- Animals bred as a genetic reserve
- Rescue animals
- Domesticated animals
We will utilize the park's large natural areas for breeding endangered animals and serve as a test environment for species conservation.
